1980 wurde Lior Shambadal Chefdirigent des Haifa Symphonie-Orchesters. 1986 bis 1993 leitete er das Kibbutz-Kammerorchester in Tel Aviv, mit dem er zahlreiche Tourneen durch Europa unternahm. Eine umfangreiche Konzerttätigkeit verbindet ihn mit Orchestern in Israel und dem europäischen Raum. Als Gründer des Ensembles der Komponistengruppe Acustic 7/11 und des Ensembles für Neue Music – Musica Nova – ist er auch als Komponist auf verschiedenen Gebieten, von der Kammermusik über Liedkompositionen bis zu symphonischen Werken, hervorgetreten. Von 1993 bis Ende der Spielzeit 1999/2000 war Lior Shambadal Generalmusikdirektor des Pfalztheaters Kaiserslautern, wo er massgeblich an der Eröffnung des neuen Theaters beteiligt war.
International bekannt ist Lior Shambadal durch CD- und Fernsehproduktionen sowie durch Gastdirigate mit internationalen Orchestern. In der Zeit von 2000 bis 2003 war er Chefdirigent des Sinfonie-Orchesters RTV-Slovenia Llubljana, und bekleidet seit Herbst 2008 die Position des Chefdirigent des Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá in Kolumbien.
Seit 1997 ist Lior Shambadal Chefdirigent der Berliner Symphoniker.

Lior Shambadal was born in 1950 in Tel Aviv where he studied viola, trombone, composition, and conducting. His studies took him to the Mozarteum in Salzburg where he worked with Carl Melles. Moving on to Vienna Mr. Shambadal had been tutored by acclaimed conductors such as Hans Swarowsky, Carlo Mario Giulini, Igor Markevitch, Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara. Lior Shambadal expanded his studies in other areas such as electronic music (in Vienna) and composition taught by Witold Lutoslawski (in France). In 1980 he was appointed chief conductor of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra. From 1986 to 1993 he led the Kibbuz Chamber Orchestra in Tel Aviv, with whom he performed on numerous tours through Europe.
Through his extensive concert activities, Mr. Shambadal made strong connections with orchestras in Israel and Europe. As the sole founder of the ensemble “Acustic 7/11” and “Musica Nova” Lior Shambadal proved himself a prolific composer whose musical range includes chamber music, song writing, and symphonic orchestra pieces.
From 1993 to the end of the season 1999/2000 Mr. Shambadal was musical director of the “Pfalztheater” in Kaiserslautern/Germany, where he was involved in the opening of the new theatre building. His CD and television productions have made Mr. Shambadal internationally famous, supported by his guest appearance conducting international orchestras.
Since February 1997 until present Mr. Shambadal is the chief conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker and was simultaneously (2000-2003) performing as the chief conductor of the RTV Slovenija Symphony Orchestra. He is musical director of the Mendelssohn Players (Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy foundation, Leipzig/Germany) and since autumn 2008 chief conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá.
